EXCEPTIONAL! I am a real estate professional in the area and do a lot of renovation and repair on many different homes, whether clients are selling, buying or just improving. Most recently there was some warped and water damaged wood floors in kitchen from a house that was built 30 years ago. * Extremely professional and quick on first consultation/ estimate. * repaired sub flooring and new floor replacement within hours - very quick! * Matched the existing floor amazingly (wood floors age, color changes with patina over the years)... Fast, attentional to detail, quality work and get this... their pricing comes in dramatically better than the competition! I will be using this company from here on out in all my personal and client's needs!

We had a great experience with Right Step. They came to my house with samples and gave me a quote. Employees were friendly and easy-going. I was not pressured at all! They were fast: about a two week wait for install after I paid the deposit and only a one day installation. They were also half the cost of all the other companies who quoted us, and they included more than others, such as reinstalling our toilet and providing new baseboards to replace our warped ones. The man who did the installation stayed while I inspected his work and quickly fixed a few minor issues I noticed. Seriously great people to work with! The floor (LVP) looks incredible too.

After many months years of looking at dull and very dark cherry hardwood floors, I decided to start the refinishing project. I anticipated a long, difficult process and the prospect of being out of my home for a lengthy period. I was lucky enough to read about Right Step Flooring on social media, and after contacting them, I met with Ben who answered all my questions and put my hesitation to rest. I am so happy that I made the decision to go with Right Step. My floors look amazing. I am no longer ashamed to have anyone see them. Meeting Lucas, the owner, at the final walk through gave me an appreciation for the business he has created. I highly recommend Right Step Flooring.

What Is Engineered Hardwood Flooring?

Engineered hardwood is a real wood flooring product constructed with a natural hardwood veneer bonded over a multi-layer plywood, HDF, or other engineered core. Its cross-layered construction provides greater dimensional stability than traditional solid hardwood while preserving authentic wood grain, color, and texture. Products vary by wood species, wear layer thickness, core construction, plank dimensions, finish, and installation system.
Solid hardwood flooring is manufactured from a single piece of solid wood, while engineered hardwood flooring uses a natural hardwood surface over multiple engineered wood layers. Solid wood floors offer strong refinishing potential, while engineered hardwood offers greater dimensional stability under certain subfloor and moisture conditions. Right Step Flooring can help Raleigh homeowners compare both options based on room use, climate, subfloor conditions, and lifestyle requirements.
Engineered hardwood is water-resistant rather than waterproof. While its multi-ply construction handles humidity changes better than solid wood, standing water or excessive moisture can still damage the natural wood veneer if it is left unaddressed.
Yes, engineered hardwood can work well in kitchens when the material is properly selected, acclimated, installed, and maintained, but below-grade basements require greater consideration because of moisture exposure. Engineered hardwood flooring may accommodate a wider range of conditions than solid hardwood, but our installers evaluate the room, subfloor, and moisture conditions before recommending a flooring type.
Yes, engineered hardwood can be successfully installed over concrete slabs using approved glue-down or floating installation systems paired with proper vapor barriers and subfloor moisture testing.
Engineered hardwood flooring installations in Raleigh at Right Step Flooring range from $8.00 to $10.00 per sq. ft. for good-quality options, $10.00 to $13.00 per sq. ft. for better-quality choices, and $13.00 to $20.00 per sq. ft. for best or premium tiers. A standard 1,200-square-foot main-level installation ranges from $15,600 to $24,000, depending on the chosen material tier, with transparent estimates provided for every project.
Yes, engineered hardwood flooring can be refinished, but how many times depends directly on the thickness of its real-wood top wear layer. Most standard engineered floors can be sanded and refinished 1 to 3 times over their lifespan.
High-quality engineered hardwood flooring lasts 20 to 30 years or more when properly installed, cared for, and maintained within optimal indoor humidity ranges.
Wear layer thicknesses typically range from 1.2mm to over 6mm. Thicker wear layers provide greater longevity and allow for multiple future refinishing cycles, while thinner layers suit low-traffic areas or tighter project budgets.
Glue-down installation may suit approved concrete slabs, nail-down methods can work over compatible wood subfloors, and certain engineered hardwood products support floating installation systems. The correct installation method depends on the engineered hardwood product, core construction, locking system, subfloor, and manufacturer requirements.
Choose engineered hardwood when natural wood construction, generational longevity, and refinishing potential are priorities, while LVP may be chosen when maximum waterproof performance, scratch resistance, and lower maintenance are needed. Right Step Flooring provides both solutions and can guide you based on your lifestyle and room conditions.
Yes, engineered hardwood planks must acclimate in your Raleigh home before installation. This allows the wood to adjust to the specific indoor temperature and relative humidity levels, preventing post-installation gapping or buckling.
